Borrowing

Library Cards:  Any Ohio resident may obtain a library card at no charge; children under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian's signature.  Please bring photo identification that lists your name and current address. A piece of mail with your name on it may be used if your identification does not list your current address. The library will charge a nominal fee for the replacement of the card. You may request a digital card online.

Items in the Library's Collection:  You can borrow up to a total of 50 items. Books, magazines, audiobooks on CD, memory kits, literacy kits, mobile speakers, headphones, compasses, electricity usage monitors, and magnifiers check out for 28 days. Writing kits, mobile hotspots, and Rokus check out for 14 days. DVDs, cake pans, and disc golf kits check out for 7 days. Any item (except for mobile hotspots, Rokus, traffic cones, and disc golf kits) will renew for up to 4 additional borrowing periods unless there are reserve requests for the item. Traffic Cone Kit and Disc Golf Kits will renew for up to 1 additional borrowing period unless there are reserve requests for the item. Items may be renewed at the Library, by telephone, or online. Patrons of any age may check out all item types except for mobile hotspots and Rokus, which are adult checkout only.

Overdue Fines:  Overdue fines for videos are $.50 per business day. Overdue fines for mobile hotspots and Rokus are $5.00 per business day. Dimes, quarters, nickels, dollars, and pennies are welcome for overdue books, magazines, audios, and kits. When an item is marked as lost, the patron's account will be charged for the cost of the item. A patron's account will be blocked at $10.00 in fines.

Reserve Requests/Holds:  If what you're looking for isn't available at the moment, you may place up to 25 reserve requests. We will notify you when the items become available for you to pick up. Items may also be requested from the 103 other library systems in the Serving Every Ohioan Consortium.

24-hour Returns:  For our patrons' convenience when the library is closed, the Mechanicsburg Public Library provides a 24-hour Book Drop for all library items.

Digital Materials:  Digital audiobooks, eBooks, magazines, music, comics, movies, and television shows are available to download with your library card and a pin number at the Ohio Digital Library (Libby app), Hoopla, and Kanopy.
